There are two PADI certified dive shops on the beach within walking distance of the casitas. Both offer rentals (by day or week) of snorkel and dive gear. Both offer one-day “tourist” courses or 3 days for certification. And both have ocean dives in the morning, afternoon and night, plus cave and cenote diving. The casitas can arrange dive packages April 15 to December 15 that include ground transportation, accommodations at Las Casitas Akumal and multiple diving options.
Just about all types of hard and soft coral abound in Akumal Bay, with shallow depths near shore to well over 40 feet reefs further out. Expect to see many varieties of colorful fish, large and small. Three varieties of Rays and numerous Green sea turtles are regularly seen. And, the occasional Long-nose Sea Horse. Las Casitas provides our guests free life vests, snorkels and masks.
The pool is 300 square meters, with a 25 meter straight stretch for laps, a children's section with progressive entry and water jets for fun, a waterfall, deck areas for sun, shade and hammocks, landscaping in middle of trees, nearby toilets and showers and tasteful lighting...all of which and more makes our pool the most beautiful anywhere on the coast.
Both dive shops can arrange fishing trips, generally for half days, but also for full day trips that include lunch.
Located 2 km from the casitas at the north end of Akumal, the snorkeling here is wonderful among deep rock formations and mangroves. There is a small admission fee for this hidden jewel where fresh water goes into the Ocean. Snorkeling is so clear, it’s like looking at fish in an aquarium.
Located about 15 minutes South of Akumal, this rock and mangrove lagoon is a Mexican National Park. A day long paradise for nature lovers, one can bike, ride mini-trains, hike nature trails, snorkel, zip-lines and eat at four restaurants. Admission.
Located about 30 minutes North of Akumal, these three very large recreational parks are great for day-long nature adventure. They have many activities for kids and adults including underground rivers, hiking trails, swimming with dolphins, zip-lines, food and Maya shows. Admission.
