Activities on Land
AKTUNCHEN CAVES: Located 4 km south of Las Casitas are thousands of stalactite and stalagmite formations.
BIKE RENTALS: Bikes are available to rent in Akumal. Please check at Reception.
CHICHEN ITZA: A 3-hour drive north towards the Cancun Airport. Turn west onto the toll road to Coba. From there, head towards the most famous of the Mayan ruins.
COBA: One-hour drive south to Tulum, turn right at the sign. Here you will find the tallest temple pyramid on the Yucatan Peninsula. This is an enormous site in the jungle amidst 5 lakes. Take insect repellent, and of course, it will be cooler in the morning. Lunch is available at Villas Arqueológicas.
ECOLOGICAL CENTER (CEA): Located in the large rectangular building near the casitas. Learn all about the Akumal eco-systems, go on jungle and turtle tours, and find out why it is so important we protect these turtles’ habitats. Check for daily-posted events or make reservations for those activities you might be interested in.
GOLF: 9-hole courses are located 15 minutes north at Puerto Aventuras. 18-hole courses are located 25 minutes north at Playa del Carmen. Please ask Reception for directions.
HORSEBACK RIDING: Horses may be rented at several locations, please enquire at Reception.
JUNGLE WALKS: Bike to a cenote in the jungle. You will need to hire a guide from CEA.
SIAN KA’AN RESERVE: Located 40 km south on the Boca Paila road. This park consists of a protected 1.3 million-acre biosphere (mangrove swamp, forest, and savanna with lots of wildlife). Reservations from Akumal travel agency are suggested for day trips.

TULUM: Located 20 minutes south, we suggest you get there early before the tour buses arrive. There are small admission and parking fees.
