Frequently Asked Questions
CAR RENTAL: All major rental companies are available at the Cancun Airport for daily or weekly rentals. The TSA travel agency in Akumal (behind Centro Ecológico de Akumal) can provide car rentals with a day’s notice. There is an Executive rental car service at Puerto Aventuras. Reception can provide you with the telephone numbers. We urge you to reserve a car well in advance of arrival and do not forget to ask for a confirmation number.
CEA AND THE TURTLE CARE PROGRAM: The Centro Ecológico de Akumal (CEA ) is a non-profit group dedicated to protecting and preserving Akumal’s precious ecosystems. You can visit the Center to learn more about the turtles of Akumal and even take a trip to see the turtles laying their eggs in season. Please come to the Reception office to buy a turtle T Shirt for USD $10.00. A part of the cost will be donated to the CEA Akumal turtle care program.

CHURCH: There is a church in Akumal with Saturday services in Spanish at 8:00 P.M. Please ask about any changes at Reception.
BABYSITTING: If babysitting services are needed, please contact Reception with the time and place you would like a babysitter. The expected rate per hour is paid directly to the sitter. The rate is negotiable for extended periods.
BANKS: Complete banking services are offered in Playa del Carmen at several banks, and the HSBC in Tulum. Banks operate Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. You may exchange money at any of the facilities in Akumal or at the money exchange bureau next to the Akumal Dive Shop.
BEACH TOWELS: Las Casitas Akumal provides large beach towels for each guest, changed as requested.
CHILDREN: Las Casitas Akumal provides a crib, highchair, and car seat for use by its guests. Please request this service when booking your casita.
COOKING: The casitas at Las Casitas Akumal are fully equipped for cooking. If you are interested in having someone cook for you in your casita, please let us know at Reception and we can provide you with a local chef. Prices are negotiable, and in most cases, you will provide the food. This is a great way to try local dishes.
DAY CARE CENTER: There is a supervised “Club” for kids up to 10 years. It is open from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M and from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M, near the Lol-Ha Snack Bar.

ELECTRICITY: Las Casitas Akumal voltage is 110V.
FRONT DESK: The Las Casitas Akumal front desk is located on the left side of the Akumal arch as you come from the main highway. It is open 7 days a week from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
GAS STATIONS: The closest gas station is 10 km north of Akumal on Hwy 307. There is also a station next to the archeological site of Tulum, 25 km south of Akumal. Both gas stations have leaded and unleaded gas.
GROCERIES: Two small groceries in Akumal have a wide selection of U.S. packaged goods such as cereals, nuts, crackers, cookies, peanut butter, canned goods; Mexican chips, coffee, fresh, frozen and canned Mexican foods such as meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, eggs, bread; a small selection of health and beauty aids; and Mexican beer and alcohol. There is a selection of fresh products and a wide selection of local and imported items. A Farmer’s Market with fresh fruit and vegetables occurs twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) alongside the basketball court behind Reception.
INTERNET SERVICE: Las Casitas Akumal provides wireless, high-speed (DSL 1 MB) internet connections in each casita. There are also two computers available in our Reception Office for guests. There is a fee of USD $3.00 for every hour of usage. Reservations are not required, but are recommended. For more information, please contact Reception.
KAYAKING: Las Casitas Akumal provides sea kayaks free of charge for its guests. Reservations must be made at the front desk, on the same day you are planning to use the kayak, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
LAUNDRY: Laundry service is available. Generally, laundry taken before 8:00 A.M. Monday through Saturday will be returned on the same day at 6:00 P.M. Service is charged by kilogram or piece for pressing.
MAID SERVICE: Las Casitas Akumal provides daily maid service. If you have a preferred time for cleaning please contact Reception.
MAIL: The post office is located across the basketball court on the left hand side and is open Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. You can also deliver your mail to the front desk; stamps are for sale in both grocery stores.
MASSAGES: Several masseuses are available for guests. Please contact Reception to schedule an appointment.
MEDICAL SERVICE: There is a modern hospital located in nearby Playa del Carmen. There is a local clinic located 7 miles south of Akumal. The front desk is happy to provide you with directions and assistance. In case of an emergency, the front desk can contact a doctor for you.
MONEY EXCHANGE: You can exchange currency at the Cancun airport, banks in Playa del Carmen (open M-F 9:00 A.M. to 5 P.M.), and “cambio” or change merchants in the area. Most businesses will take US currency and give change in pesos at comparable exchange rates. Typically, the best exchange rates are from credit cards. However, not all merchants accept them. An ATM is available at Super Chomak.
PHONE SERVICE: Las Casitas Akumal makes international phone service available to its guests. A credit card must be on record at Reception to open the line. Please verify with the front desk the international call rates. Fax and E-mail service is also provided at the reception desk. There is a service charge.
SAFE-DEPOSIT BOXES: At Las Casitas Akumal, there is one safe-deposit box in each casita.
SCUBA DIVING: There are two, full-service dive shops in Akumal, both are located on the main beach. Each shop provides diving and fishing trips, equipment rentals and sales, sail boating and much more.
SHOPPING: There are a wide variety of boutiques with art, gifts, and clothing all within walking distance of Las Casitas Akumal.
TRANSPORTATION: The Las Casitas reception staff can help you with public or private transportation anywhere you want to go. Bus schedules are available at Reception for routes including Cancun, Chetumal, and Merida. Times are not exact. Government regulated taxis are available in Akumal and can be reserved at the front desk for local transportation.
TENNIS COURT: The Las Casitas Akumal tennis court is available to our guests. Reservations can be made from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Reception. Racquets and balls are available.
WATER: Las Casitas Akumal provides bottled water in every casita for drinking, making ice cubes and brushing teeth and cooking. Ask the maid or the receptionist for refills. The tap water is municipal and has been filtered by Las Casitas Akumal, but still should be used only for bathing and washing dishes.
